divyadp
I am a postdoc, currently on a J1 visa, valid until 28 Feb 2015. I received the two-year home stay waiver and my employer filed for an H1B visa for me. The I-129 petition was approved by USCIS on December 12, 2014, with a start date of March 1, 2015. Can i travel abroad right now and re-enter on my existing J1 visa? Could there be any issues at the POE? I do not have the new I-797 yet- though USCIS says it has been shipped. Thanks! jairichi
Yes, you can enter with a valid J1 visa and DS2019 provided you are still working for J1 employer. Link to comment
divyadp
Thanks! Do you think i should carry my new 797 as well or will the DS2019 be enough? Link to comment

Since you are entering with a valid J1 visa and DS2019 these documents should suffice. Nothing wrong in carrying your I797. Check with your institute's H1B team. Link to comment
