Returning US after L to H conversion

My current max-out date is Dec 2015 (5 years with L1 visa). If I leave US by Jan 2015 and return US by Jan 2016 (after L to H conversion),

 

a)    How long can I stay in US with my H1 visa? For just 1 year (Jan 2017) or 1 year + 11 months (L1 remaining period) – Dec 2017.

b)    In case, if my employer agree to process my green card under EB1 category by July 2016, would it possible to apply for green card and get it approved before my visa period ends?

a. Only if your cap subject H1B petition was filed after you stayed outside US for 365 days you are eligible for 6 years. Otherwise you are eligible for 6 years - time spent in US on L1 visa. Date of filing of H1B matters and not date of entry.

b. 2016 is a long way to go to predict anything.
