H1 transfer when you are not in US

Is it legal for me to leave US by quitting the current employer while my visa transfer to new employer is still in progress? I want to check if it is a viable option to quit my employer once the visa transfer is filed and go on a couple of weeks vacation (to home country) and come back and start working for the new employer once the visa transfer is complete (assuming the visa transfer will eventually be approved by USCIS as the employer itself is the client too).
