Minor travel to India with expired passport

Hi,

 

I have a situation where my H1 Visa approval got delayed and in the meantime my son's passport (minor) has expired. Now, our project is closed and we are required back to relocate to India soon. Can anyone advise if my son can travel with an expired passport or should I get it renewed before travel.

I also got to know that tatkal passport is not processed with travel reasons. Please suggest if there is any other alternative.

You son needs to have a valid passport to travel.
