Obviously , only scanned copies....never send original.

you dont have to do anything...just stay away from it..there is no sponsorship of visitor's visa...they have to apply themselves.

Should I select 'SELF' for father and husband for mother OR son that is me for both.

It is always better to have your parents sponsor their trip. So, you can mention SELF for father and SPOUSE for mother.

Primary occupation is his designation/position in government

You can always sponsor your parents visit, meaning pay for their stay while in the US. You would need to send proof that you can afford to by sending pay stubs and tax returns. 

 

Since you mentioned your father works for the government, he might need a NOC (No Objection Certificate) from the government for the Visa and/ or departure.
