URGENT F 1 NFORMATION NEEDED

 Iam on F1 in my last semester and gong to start my summer internshp in 2 weeks. My OPT is valid until dec 2014.I had applied for COS and got it approved after 10 months. Once my COS approved-I did not know that I had to meet up wth the DOS of my school to get the SEVIS validated. Unfortunately when I happen to meet the DOS yesterday- was informed that the validation expired 3 days back. I am in panick mode right now.

1.Am I considered out of status even though I have a valid visa approved?

2.What are my next steps?
