Waiting for B1 visa extension from USCIS, Can I travel back to India without approval?

Hi,

 

We have applied B1/B2 Visitor visa extension, 30 days prior to visa expiry. Its been 2.5 months now and the USCIS case status is still under 'Initial Review'. As my extended Travel date approaches, I can leave US without the approval in hand. Should I wait until I receive a communications from USCIS.

 

Please suggest
