Multiple H1b petitions

Say company A and Company B both want to file H1b petitions for me and both get approved. In that case which petition gets picked up and which company do I need to work for?

If both approved then that's up to you.

Both would get picked up. USCIS knows about multiple petitions.

It is a bad idea to have two companies file H1 petitions. Or are you going to work for both companies?

You need to choose at least one of them and maintain than H1b by working for them and getting paid.
Just make sure that as a beneficiary don’t pay for H1b processing fees, its illegal.

Say Company A h1b gets approved in Nov. I join them and their H1b. Company B H1b gets approved in Dec. Can I forgo Company B H1b? i.e not go onto that H1b. Since company B H1b got approved later in Dec, does it automatically move me onto Company B H1b?

No. Forget B and concentrate on your job.

You are already on H1 working for A.
