Can I switch employer after applying for OPT extension?

Hi,

 

I am currently working for a XYZ company on OPT which expires in May 2014. Recently, I gave interviews for another position at ABC company and I am thinking of switching to this job. The problem is I have applied for OPT extension this week and I have listed XYZ as my employer, If I move to ABC in next two weeks then chances are I will shift employer before I get my extension. 

 

The questions is:

 

Should I take this new Job before I get my extension?

 

Also, I heard people saying its taking lots of time for USCIS for processing appications because of Shutdown ( Is it true)

 

What if my extension is pending with USCIS even after May 2014, What can I do then? Can I continue working or go back?

You can continue working , as you have an application pending.. 

 

I think its better that you stick with the same employer, since there could be a chance that USCIS can come back with an RFE.

 

But Generally it should not matter as OPT EAD is valid to work with any employer..

I believe you can change employers but the new employer needs to be e-verify.

Ask them, if they are e-verified and I believe there is a website for that checking, whether an employer is e-verified or not.
