H1 to H4 to H1

My curent H1 is expiring on 15th Sept and my company has not filed the extension yet because of LCA issue. On my green card, I have my I140 approved.

If I don’t get LCA before 14th sept extension application cannot be sent before my current H1 expires and I will have 2 options 1) leave the US 2) change of status to H4 (temporary until I get my H1 extension)

Which option is safer/recommended? How does it affect my existing green card situation if I go for H4?

Please let me know asap since i have only few days left to make this decision.
