catx
A private, non-profit university should be okay. However, there are some questionable private universities that claim to be "non-profit" that are in fact actually for profit schools. If it is a recognized, well-known private, non-profit university, such as those affiliated with a non-profit organization such as a church, then you are okay. Link to comment
JoeF
Depends if that's a real, accredited university. Some 4-tier universities haven't been accredited. Link to comment
t75
I doubt anyone should give a definite answer without knowing the name of the university since many students do not properly know the type of university they are attending. Link to comment

Stanford is a private non-profit university. There is no problem for anybody from Stanford. But there are a bunch of low-level shady institutions... Link to comment
rahul412
what about *** (San Jose) a recently accredited university? This one was recently accd. But this univ is still abusing CPT program, I would not use this degree for H1. Link to comment

But there are a bunch of low-level shady institutions... In addition to Stanford (which is one of the best known private, non-profit universities), just in Texas there is Rice, TCU, HBU, SMU, and many, many more. There 100s if not 1000s of legitimate, reputable, accredited private, non-profit universities and colleges in the U.S. There is no need whatsoever to go to a questionable school (like ***) unless you are looking to get around immigration laws by attending a visa and diploma mill to get CPT, etc. Link to comment
