ggn979
Hello, Year 2013 , my in-laws came to US in Visitor Visa. I have sponsored for their whole visit. They stayed for 5.5 months. Can I apply for Tax benefit as they are dependents for me? Link to comment

Can I apply for Tax benefit as they are dependents for me? I believe they would qualify if they had stayed 183 days in US. Not 100% sure though. Link to comment
L1_to_H1
I believe without SSN they can not be claimed as dependents. Link to comment
t75
Beware of trying to claim tax benefits for which they are not entitled. Tax fraud can terminate any hope of a GC. Also, if they are your "dependents", they are not qualified for B2 visa since they have stronger ties to US than to their home country so be careful calling them that. If you do claim them, be sure they proudly announce it to the VO at their next immigration processing. Link to comment
