Is is legal for H-1B holder to have a job in India?

I received an offer from an Indian company for remote consultation work in India. I've the choice to get paid in USD or INR. My question is:

1. Is it legal for a H-1B holder to have a paying job in India and work for them from USA?
2. If answer to Q1 is yes, is it legal to get paid in USD or should the payment be in INR only?

NO. While you are physically in the US as a guest worker, you may work for your sponsor only.  If you want the India job, you will need to relocate.

Also, most employers limit all their employees outside work by their employment contract and personnel manual..

If you are in US on H1 then you will be working for your employer only. Any other work is treated as illegal.

In H1 status, you can ONLY work for your H1 employer. You can NOT work for anybody else, not even companies abroad.

Doing so would make you illegal.
