catx
Yes, under immigration law you can take one online class (typically 3 credit hours) per semester (maximum) when studying on a F-1 visa. (An interesting side note is that with universities / colleges offering more and more classes online, it can become hard to find applicable classroom classes. My son had that problem at the pubic university where he is doing is Master degree. For the upcoming semester he had to get permission to register in a classroom class related to his degree but in a different department.) Link to comment
JoeF
A student on F1 can only take ONE class/3 credits online per quarter/semester. All other classes have to be physical presence. In general, since you have to be there for classes anyway, there is no reason to take any online class. Link to comment
danik
One online course through out the course term should be ok. having said that think you are a USCIS officer and think of why the officer should be convinced of why did you take online course? F1 students enter USA saying they want to study full time and after coming to USA being on F1 status, what is the need for online course? (Unless you are working on CPT in other region than your university) But you cannot give CPT reason to the officers, could you? In my opinion, taking online class doesn't look good in long run. try to avoid it. Link to comment
