gouthamd
Hi, I am a Permanent resident living in California and will be marrying a F1 visa holder soon. My fiancee wants to change her last name to mine and we have opted for same in the marriage license. What will be my fiancee's last name in the Marriage certificate, my last name or her last name? Does the name change affects her F1 visa? Is it mandatory that we change her name in her passport and also in University? Should we take care of anything else regarding her name change. JoeF
If she gets your last name, that will show up in the marriage certificate. She then will have to change her passport, and inform all other authorities, like USCIS, social security, the university, DMV, etc. about her name change. Link to comment
tusharvk
The marriage certificate will show your last name as hers. From that point on you have to do passport name change at your consulate=>ss card, etc. The people in the international student affairs at her university would be best to provide more counsel in this regard.
