J2 status if country of citizenship changes

Hi all

 

 I am currently doing medical residency on J1 visa.( J1 alien Physician with 2 yr home country rule) when I  initially applied for J1 visa in 2012 my husband also applied as a dependent and was granted J-2 status as my dependent.

 

When he applied for J-2 he was an Indian citizen, but he has recently acquired British citizenship and had to give up his Indian citizenship.

 

I would be grateful if anyone can clarify 

 

1. Whether his J-2 status would continue with his British passport as his current DS form is valid till June 2014. Or  He would need to apply for a new DS form in order to get J2 visa stamped to return to the US.

2. or he would need to get new ds form to get j2 visa stamped. 

3. meanwhile can he travel to US as a visitor and would it affect his j-2 status.
