Documents required for applying SSN on Students Visa

I was on H4 visa but now my F1 visa is approved

Can someone please tell me how do I proceed in applying for SSN and what all documents are required for applying SSN.

On F1, you would only qualify for an SSN if you have a job offer for a job on campus.

Following on what JoeF correctly posted, you need your F-1 visa, current I-20 form, and the official job offer letter from the university / college you attend for a part-time (20 hours / week maximum while school is in session) on-campus job.

Maybe you are thinking of a TIN - Taxpayer Identification Number - that are issued by the IRS for people who do not qualify for a SSN, e.g. for dependents claimed on a tax return.  On a F-1 visa you (will need to) get a SSN once you have a on-campus job offer from the university / college you are attending.  You need a SSN to work (you cannot use a TIN for work).
