GC for parents; sponsor does not have birth certificate

Hi,

 

I am a naturalized US Citizen. Many years ago when I got my green card, I used an affidavit signed by my parents in lieu of a birth certificate.

 

I am now looking to sponsor a Green Card for my parents. I need to submit my birth certificate as part of the process. It feels pretty awkward that I use the affidavit from my parents as my birth certificate, and then turn around to use that as proof that they are my parents!

 

Any guidance on how to deal with this situation? What have others done?
