L1B->L1A->GC

Hi,
      I came to the US in 2008 in L1-B. I worked for 5 straight years in the US in L1-B. My company did L1-A while I was in US and my I-94 is now valid till Feb 2015. They now want to do GC in EB2. Is there any use in doing the GC since I only have another 17 months of stay in the US after which I have to return back to my home country. Unlike H1-B, I cannot keep extending my stay if my GC is in-process.

Any comments/feedback please?

GC is for future employment..so you can always stay out of the country while your GC is in process.
