J1 waiver

I am applying for research and my mentor has called me on a J visa at a prestigous university for 1 year of cancer research . After my research has ended i wil like to apply for residency on a H1b visa. Under what provisions can you get a waiver  ( 2 year home stay rule  (212e)) for a J research Visa?

 

Is IGA a viable option?

IGA waivers generally apply to residency program J1s. For research J1s, generally all you need is a letter from your home country's government expressing No Objection.

I am a research scholar on a J1 visa with 212(e) clause on the visa and want to pursue clincal fellowship in transplant surgery. I want to get a H1 visa for my fellowship as my wife is also on a H1 visa. Is it possible to change the visa without completing the 2 year clause? Is a waiver possible?
