H4 to F1 transfer process

Dear All,

 

I was on H4 Visa and I transferred to F1 last month. I have also received the approval notice. I may possibly get a RA/TA in my university in fall semester.

 

My question is what are the next steps after receiving F1 approval notice.

 

1) Do I need to get a SSN as soon as I can? Currently I do have an ITIN.

2) Do I need to update my status in USCIS or submit any more forms to USCIS as part of completing my status change?

 

Please share the process after receiving F1 approval notice.

Hi,

   could you let me know how long it took for the H4 to F1 change of status from the time you have submitted the application to USCIS? we have applied on 3rd Jul and status is Initial review as of now.

 

Once you have your F1 approval,you would have to inform your university International advisor, I believe.

Inform your school's DSO of the approved change of status. They will register you in SEVIS.

 

For SSN you will need a job offer. The DSO will tell you what documents you need and they will issue a letter for you to apply for SSN.
