Hello,

I am currently in USA on F2 visa.

My friend in India has started a tourism company which she wants to promote it. Can I volunteer to help her by sending off emails to potential clients, always using company's email account and signed by her underneath? This is just a favor for a close friend and I will not be taking any money for it.

Please advise

No, you can NOT.

Volunteering for a for-profit company is NEVER allowed for somebody on F2.

It would be unauthorized work, even if it is without compensation.

And she can send emails herself from anywhere in the world.

Thank you JoeF and t75 , I appreciate your replies.

One more question. My visa status will be changed to F1 within a month. Would such volunteering still be illegal as it is while being on F2? Or With F1 it will be possible?

Thank you

Same with F1 or H1 or H4 or any other such status.

You can NOT do this kind of stuff. Period.

Her friend obviously does not have the time needed to devote to business development and OP is willing to help.

OP, you may volunteer only for organizations where all others in the position are also volunteers.  Religious groups, schools, hospitals, civic organizations, and social service organizations all have need of volunteers.

t75, you are right. This is exactly the reason why she wanted help/favor from friends.

Thank you all for the clarification. I now know the limitations of my visa status to be ale to make an informed decision.
