ashareddy27 Posted June 12, 2013 Report Posted June 12, 2013 I am currently on OPT, I have applied for H1 and my H1has been approved on may 23rd 2013. I have requested my college to provide a CAP-GAP I20 as my OPT I20 expires end of this month , My college replied me saying even though my H1 is approved my SEVIS is not updated by USCIS so they cant issue a I20 now. Mu college has asked me to contact USCIS to update my SEVIS. I have called USCIS in regards to this they told to contact local USCIS. My question is, is SEVIS not updated automatically when H1 is approved do we need to do that by ourself ? Has anyone face this similar issue, and if yes what are my best options. If my SEVIS is not updated am I out of status given that i have an approved H1B while on valid OPT status ending this month.
livliv Posted June 18, 2013 Report Posted June 18, 2013 Try visiting the local USCIS office. Secondly also ask your DSO if they can request a SEVIS data fix.
