need parents visa for graduation ceremony

I am on f1 visa and my spouse is on H1 visa. My sister is a US citizen. I am doing my masters from a reputed university and would be graduating in dec. I would like to invite my parents for graduation ceremony. My mother has a valid visa for 10 years but my fathers visa has expired. My husband is going to sponsor their trip. The concern is his current H-1B visa stamp in passport is valid till march 2014. We were wondering whether my father would get visa for only 3 months as long as his H1B is valid? Should my parents self sponsor their trip? OR Should my sister sponsor their trip?

Need advice.

Your parents visa validity has nothing to do with your husbands H1B validity.

It's good if they go for self sponsor.
