PD current - h1b extension without filing for i485 possible?

If my PD is current, can I file for h1b extension WITHOUT filing i-485 (I have approved labor and i140). I have waited a while but unfortunately, my personal situation at the moment would be better served if I wait a year or so before filing for i485.
