H1-B transfer after 6th year extension without I-140 number

Hi,

I'm working with CompanyA, finished 6 years on H1-B with CompanyA, and now got extension for 3-yrs till 2015 with CompanyA based on I-140. However CompanyA is not sharing I-140 number. Now I want to join CompanyB.

(1) Do I need I-140 number to transfer the H1-B to CompanyB? Can I transfer without the I-140 number to CompanyB?

(2) In future if I want to transfer to CompanyC, and I still have 2+ yrs left on H1-B extension, do I need I-140 numbers from CompanyA and CompanyB?
