ranjaniiyer Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 Hello I am a post-doctoral research associate currently working on STEM OPT Extension which is valid until Feb 2014. I was recently offered a lucrative position at a good research firm, but I just found out that they are not in E-verify. Can I work for them in STEM OPT Extension visa? If not, then what are my options? The firm is very rigid on signing up for E-verify. And according to their policy, they would process my H1B only after 90 days of employment. I appreciate any help /suggestions you could provide. Thanks much
Attorney_22 Posted May 1, 2013 Report Posted May 1, 2013 To employ an individual pursuant to STEM OPT the company needs to be enrolled in E-Verify, and according to the proposals for immigration reform, all employers will eventually need to utilize E-Verify if passed as currently written.
ranjaniiyer Posted May 1, 2013 Author Report Posted May 1, 2013 Thank you for your reply. I spoke to their immigration department, and they said that its OK to work with them on STEM OPT. I am really confused now. What are the repurcussions of working for a non e-verify company on STEM OPT? Please do let me know. Thanks
t75 Posted May 2, 2013 Report Posted May 2, 2013 Everify is required for OPT extension but not for OPT. Which are you on? When your OPT expires, you will need a different everified employer for OPT-EXT
DontTakeRisks Posted May 8, 2013 Report Posted May 8, 2013 When you try to apply for STEM extension the application will ask you to fill out the e-verify number provided by the employer. if you don't have it then it will pobably be rejected
