Hi All,

One of my friend is on H1B and is being offered to authored a course for an online company that offers courses -- like Computer Science related or IT related. Can he do that ?

If yes, what are the things that need to keep in mind ?

Ideally an H1B worker cannot work for other companies, but here he is not working, just creating a course of that company and the company will pay him for the amount of work that he has put into.

Also, the company is in US and has agreed to transfer money to an overseas account e.g. an account in SBI or anywhere the person has an account created. Is this allowable ?

for e.g. An author from India can be hired by a company in US to design and deliver IT related courses and the company can pay him in his/her Indian bank account ... this is fine .. but what if the Author is in US on H1B and the company is willing to pay him/her to Indian bank account .. is this allowed ?

No, he cannot work for another company if hes not on their H1...thats illegal work.

Thanks ! does it apply for below scenario as well ?

Yes.

A person in H1 status can ONLY work for the H1 employer.

And where money would get deposited is completely irrelevant. The person on H1 has to declare his or her worldwide income on the US tax returns.
