Second opinion- travel during H1B transfer pending approval

I have a valid H1B stamp (till oct 2014) I just started working for a new employer. I don't have the approval notice yet. Can I travel out of the country before I get the approval notice? Is it okay to travel with a valid H1B stamp and a receipt notice?

My company attorney says that i can travel as long as the petition does not get approved while am abroad. I wanted to get a second opinion:

1. Is the attorney correct and can i travel without approval

2. What are complications if the approval notices comes while i am abroad?

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
