Labor Certification during medicine residency

Hello,

I am a second year medicine resident on H1B and was wondering if I can start my labor certification/green card process now. I will be continuing to work even after residency in the same hospital.

I spoke to the hospital lawyer and she was very positive that it could be done.

I would like your opinion on this as well. Your responses are appreciated.
