for how long i can work with my current employer after h1b transfer

Hi Experts,

I am on H1B visa and working in IL,US for last one year.I have got my H1B transferred.My new employer has confirmed my H1B transfer and has shared new Receipt Number,Starting Validity Date,Ending Validity Date.My new H1B has starting validity date as 04/10/13.

I have put down my papers on 04/16/13 in my current organization and not yet sure on my last working day as my current employer has a separation policy where in one requires to serve 3 months notice period and if one does not serve complete notice period then he/she should pay them $$ amount to get a fair exit from the company.

My question is, Since my H1B has been transferred, for how long i can continue to work with my current employer as i have to serve my 3 months notice period.

Please let me know in case any additional information is required to anwer this question.

Such a "separation policy" is most likely not valid.

You can work for the old employer until the new H1 is approved, or it's start date, whichever is later.
