L2-EAD to H1B using existing approved H1B petition

I was working in Indian MNC , in Chennai. They filed H1B visa for me in 2011 .My petition got filed Oct'30 2011 and got approved Feb 22'2012.Generally 2 month of time take to get hard copy of H1B petition from USCIS for stamping. In between , my wife got L1 visa and i also stamped L2 and we both came to USA on March.3 2012.I didn't quit my employer and took long leave , applied L2 -EAD .After getting L2-EAD , i joined full time job in my city and quit my employer. While settlement they sent my H1B approved I-797 softcopy to me for future purpose. Now my question comes...i asked my employer to change of status from L2-EAD to H1B with CAP-EXEMPT as i have approved petition ,still valid till Oct'2014 and i had counted already in CAP last year. I read some forum ,if your petition approved then it will be valid next 6 years and you will not count under CAP. Please confirm the thing as it is very urgent..
