H1B Renewal - Old Petition Lost

Hi All - I have my H1B visa stamped in Oct 2006 and i have the Visa Stamping having the Petition Number, But i lost my Old Petition Copy from Employer.

Whether Old Petition Copy is Needed for Applying H1B Visa under cap exempt? or the Visa Copy with the petiion number should be fine?

case details:

Petition approved in 2007 and visa rejected. Can i apply h1b out of cap as i have an approved petition in 2007(problem is, i didn’t have the copy of approved I-797,only receipt number) ??
