J1 expires August 8--what are my options to stay?

Hi Everyone,

I am working as a Trainee on a J1 visa and my visa will expire August 8th. My employer started the process to apply for a H1-B but unfortunately had to cancel the application due to unexpected changes in the company this week.

Nevertheless, I want to stay in the US and I am need for advice on what the options are for me to stay in the US.

Do you know if and what options there are for me to stay in the US?

(The two year residency does not apply to me)

I would really like to hear any ideas/ thoughts from you all.

Didn't you tell the VO that you had all sorts of reasons why you would return? Or were those reasons merely imaginary?

Whatever you told the VO at the time of your J1 interview does not matter here. Depending on your area of work try to find a non-profit employer who can sponsor a H1B cap exempt visa. It will be relatively easy to get a change of status from J1 to H1B while you are in US.
