Using the previous Priority Date with the new employer

Hi,

My previous employer had filed my GC and my priority date is of May 2010 while i was consulting and got my I-140 approved. I became full time with the client in Aug 2011 and they haven't yet filed my Labor which is a whole another story. My previous employer told me few months ago that he has dropped my I-140 sponsorship. I don't understand what that means but I am told that i cannot use the previous priority date because of this.

The immigration specialist of my current employer told me that as long as I have a copy of my previous I-140 I can use the older priority date.

Now there is a new person who has taken up the role of the immigration specialist and she doesn't know much and avoids providing any information to me.

Can anyone tell me whether I can use the previous priority date when my current company files for labor and so on? Thank you!

If you have an approved I-140, you can reuse the PD.
