Attorney_11 Posted February 28, 2013 Report Posted February 28, 2013 One must be admitted to a institution of higher education and be issued an I-20 by a university prior to apply for an F-1 visa or change of status to F-1 in the United States. A change of status would not result in the voiding or invalidity of any previous visa held by an individual. However, if in the US, in this example a successful change of status would result in the status of a visitor changing to student. It may be helpful to discuss this with a qualified immigration attorney.
