rodman83
Hi All, We just received our Green Cards a couple of weeks ago. My wife is working with her employer on an H1 visa. Is she required to inform her employer that she now has a GC or only when asked explicitly? Link to comment
catx
Why would your wife want to keep being granted permanent residency (green card) a secret? Further, yes, she needs to inform her employer's human resources (HR) department of the change in her immigration status, as they are sponsoring her H-1B visa and thus it directly effects them. Again, why would this be a problem as you seem to be indicating? Link to comment
Attorney_25
It would be a good idea to inform her employer for several reasons. One is to ensure she is paid at least the GC offered wage from the time of GC approval. Also, if she continues working for this employer they will need to update her I-9 with proof of continuing employment authorization by the time the current I-9 expires. Link to comment
