Last Name in Birth Certificate - Georgia

My baby was born last week in Georgia. As per our custom, baby gets father's first name as last name. But, the hospital staff said initially the baby can have mother's last name or father's last name as baby's last name; And can get it changed it later by getting a court order? Is it true? Is there any way i can get father's first name last name upfront?

Not sure why the hospital would create a problem about naming your child the way you want. While in the hospital they use the father's or mother's last name to identify the baby. But when you apply for the birth certificate, you can fill out whatever you think your child's name should be in the application form. My son's last name is not the same as my last name or my wife's.
