Have Valid H1-B visa till Apr 2013. Applied for extension last week. can i travel to india before apr 2013?

I would like to know if I can travel to India on my valid H1-B visa which is active till apr 2013 when i filed for H1B extension last week with regular processing. is it safe or risky?
