Two I94's and Two I797 petitions

Hi

My employer filed for H1B last year and it was approved and received I797B (Without I94, I was already in USA). And, I have questioned them and they said it is fine if you go for visa stamping carrying I797B, which I did and got my H1B visa stamped. I returned to USA on Dec 31st 2012 and got a new I94 valid till 2015.

In the mean time, my employer has filed some kind of an amendment and I received a I797A approved document with a new I94 (Which is the same I94 number as the one used when H1B is filed first, which I surrendered while I was leaving US). I am completely confused now, which I94 is active.

It would be really appreciated if anyone can suggest something. My employer is a Indian based MNC.
