r_ask Posted February 11, 2013 Report Posted February 11, 2013 Hi, I am a bit confused reading the information on this forum and at the USCIS website. Here is the situation. Me and my wife are eligible to apply for naturalization. I have two kids, 16 and 14. And they live with us. As I understand, my kids become citizens automatically if our naturalization is granted. What happens then? How do they get their US Passports. Or would I need to submit an N-600 each for both of them? Thanks in advance for any replies.
JoeF Posted February 12, 2013 Report Posted February 12, 2013 An N-600 isn't really required. The kids can get their US passports by providing your naturalization certificate.
Attorney_11 Posted February 12, 2013 Report Posted February 12, 2013 Assuming the children are in the US as lawful permanent residents, yes, they do become citizens automatically upon the naturalization of one of the parents per the Child Citizenship Act. The children can either apply for the US passport directly after that with proofs required including proof of the parent's US citizenship, and can concurrently apply for a Certificate of Citizenship on Form N-600. Although a Certificate of Citizenship is not mandatory, it is advisable.
richiboy Posted February 4, 2016 Report Posted February 4, 2016 has anyone received certificate of citizenship for kid ( 15 ) with copy of kids US passport but without original green card if DoS keeps it while processing kids us passport?
