SATHISH1 Posted February 1, 2013 Report Posted February 1, 2013 I and my wife are scheduled for Citizenship interview on March 5th. My daughter (under 18) is travelling to Europe on March 21-29 on Shengen visa (with Indian passport)? As I understand, if either of child's parents takes a oath, my daughter's Indian passport will become invalid. Is this correct? Can I request a different date for Oath during my interview? so that we can take oath after my daugther returns from Europe on 30th March. Looking forward to hear suggestions/ available options. Thanks in advance.
Attorney_11 Posted February 5, 2013 Report Posted February 5, 2013 In certain USCIS field offices, the oath is given immediately after the completion of the interview. In others, it is scheduled for a month or more after the interview. In certain circumstances, children under 18 of US citizens who are Lawful Permanent Residents automatically become citizens when their parents naturalize to US citizenship. The children can then immediately apply for a US passport, with expedited process for an additional fee.
