nvspratap
Hello All, My brother got his opt extension denied, this is how the event went. Applied for extension, after 3 months got a query asking for correct e-verify number. We gave a wrong e-verify number! So, we replied the query giving right e-verify number. We just got the status online, that the opt is denied. We are still waiting for the letter. Did anyone faced this kind of situation? He is currently working, do he need to stop working? Can anyone please give me some options in this situation? Thanks and regards, H1Ranger Link to comment

catx
If he is working past the expiry date on the 12 month OPT employment authorization, then he is doing so illegally and needs to stop immediately. Further, if his F-1 visa has expired, then he is accumulating out of status days (staying in the U.S. illegally) and needs to leave the U.S. or face much more serious consequences. Link to comment
t75
He also does not need you solving his problems. If he cannot, he is too immature to work in the US. Link to comment
Attorney_11
A Motion to Reconsider may overcome the initial error with the EVerify number, assuming there are no other grounds for ineligibility. It would be valuable to speak with an immigration attorney to discuss the MTR process and next steps, as well as personal issues related to lawful presence and work authorization while an MTR is pending. nvspratap
Thanks all for your replies. He stopped working immediately, applied MTR, got I20 before grace period. And now planning to reinstate. Thanks once again for your time. H1Ranger Link to comment
