Travelling from different city on AP - Any issues?

Hope someone could help on this. I am on AP and visiting out of country and bought a round trip ticket from/to another city than where I live. The reason behind this was as my wife and I were planning to visit a cousin in another city we decided to fly out from there. We would be flying back to cousin's home and from there next day flying back to our home on return. We didn't think there would be any issue in doing so but while talking to one of the friends, he says that if on your return trip we don't show the ticket that shows we are going from the port of entry to our home city then it will create problems in re-entry and instead of having another ticket to fly next day back to home city I should change my flight to straight come home from the port of entry.

Could someone please suggest if that would be true? Am I supposed to fly out and return only from/to my home city? I will appreciate if someone could help on this query.
