Travel when I-539 is pending

Hi

I have applied visitor visa extension (I-539) in November 2012 for my mother-in-law. Her I-94 is expired and we are waiting for the decision.The application is still pending.

She need to travel back to india in February 2013. Can she travel before the I-539 decision is made? What are implications? Does she will be considered out of status? Can anybody help on this?

I just go the update from usics case status that I-539 is approved and new i-94 is mailed. My mother-in-law travel is on Monday (02/04).

Can she submit the old i-94, while leaving? or does she need to submit the new i-94? Please help
