Hi all,

I came to US in 2009 for MS the I got 2.5 yrs visa.

my visa expired in dec 2011.

Then I joined for PhD and i did not renew my visa till then.

This December I came to India due to emergency and I took semester break.

I talked to my university people they said my sSEVIS on current I-20 expires in a month.

They said they will issue me new I-20 with new SEVIS.

Can I go to visa renewal with the current I-20 which I got.

What documents do I need to take for visa renewal.

Will there be any problem while entering in to US with new I-20 with new SEVIS.

Thank you all in advance.

You will be issued a new I-20 in accordance to the law made by USCIS. So do not worry and apply for the visa. The new I-20 will be an official immigration document issued by USCIS so ideally nobody should have a problem with that. The only problem you may find is that they may consider you a potential immigrant or applicant with double intent because you didn't go out and instead chose to continue your education which is OK but there are cases where people do not want to go out and intentionally join school. Don't worry that much though.
