H1B 7th Year extension RFE - Please advise

Hi -

My 7th year H1B extension just got an RFE (extension filed on the strength of approved I-140 and long term client project). I am not sure of the RFE reason yet, considering my attorney filed all the relevant paperwork - client letter, SOW, etc etc.

My current H1 B expires Feb 1, 2013 and although my attorney will respond to the RFE sometime in Feb, I am assuming worst case denial scenario right now. I understand I will still be in status after Feb 1, till a decision on the case is given by UCICS. I also have an approved I-140.

In the interim, I am appearing for some full time positions. Assuming, I land a job with a full time employer willing to sponsor my H1B sometime post Feb 1, but before the RFE decision, what happens? Since, my status post Feb 1 is kind of in limbo, I am not sure what my options are?

Can someone with experience of such a scenario kindly advise?
