Confused about Current status - H1/ H4? Please help- URGENT

My Wife came to US in March 2012 as H-4 till 09/20/2012. Her H-1B was filled by a company in June 7, 2012, it got approved on 09/20/2012 effective date 10/01/2012 - 09/30/2015. As we were not sure about her h1b approval we filled H-4 on 19th September 2012 to save her status, which got approved on 12/03/2012 effective date of 09/21/2012 - 09/20/2015.

Her company Lawyer is saying as H-1B was in effect from 10/01 and H-4 was in effect from 09/21, she is on H-1B.

I am not sure about her current visa status. Please help me with this. According to the last action rule, she is on H4 on the other hand, according effective date rule she is on H1. I will really appreciate for any help.
