Filed for H1B but H4 is going to expire

Hi,

Currently, I am on H4 visa, and H4 is going to expire in September.

My employer has filed my H1 and start date is October 1, 2011.

Should I get my H4 visa extended or should I wait for H1b decision.

If my spouse's company file for H4 extension and if I get it after October so will it effect on my H1B.

Please help.

Generally, if there is a gap between the expiration of one’s current status and the start date of the requested status (if a change of status is requested), the requested status may not be granted. In general, one must be able to show that he/she will maintain valid status until the start date of the requested status.
