H1b Extension For two Months

My husband's H1b is expiring On december 30th 2012. His employer has filed PERM for the green Card process, But it has not been approved yet. This is his 6th year on H1b, and with recaptured time the 6th years end by the end of february. So is it possible to apply for an H1b extension for two months, Just so that we will have time to do I-140 in premium processing, and thus avoiding leaving the country..

if PERM is approved or if it is pending for more than 1 yr you can get 1 yr H1 extension ..
